Cody Martin leaves heartfelt message for the Charlotte Hornets after getting traded

Cody Martin is all set to start a new chapter in his NBA career, but he didn’t forget to acknowledge his former team.

The Charlotte Hornets are far from perfect this season. Even with their recent win over the Los Angeles Lakers, they remain the 14th seed in the Eastern Conference.

In hopes of somewhat bolstering their roster, they acquired Jusuf Nurkic in a trade with the Phoenix Suns. In the process, the Hornets parted ways with their veteran Cody Martin and guard Vasilije Micic.

Considering the fact that Martin was playing the sixth season of his NBA career with the Hornets, he had become a familiar face in the Charlotte community.

He had also seen the Hornets usher in a new era with superstar guard LaMelo Ball leading the charge. Keeping that in mind, Martin left an emotional goodbye message for his former team via his official Instagram handle.

“Thank you for growing with me, supporting me, and trusting me throughout my career. Giving me an opportunity to play for the home team and turning my dreams into a reality,” Martin wrote.

He added: “From being drafted here to navigating all the obstacles we’ve faced together, I will always be grateful for the constant love and support y’all have given me.

“I’ve connected and built relationships with so many people throughout my career and I’m thankful for every one of them.”

Martin further mentioned that he will forever be thankful to the Hornets for being a part of his NBA journey and was proud to play for the organization.

The 29-year-old averaged 6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for the Hornets over 245 appearances.

While Martin has wrapped up his journey with the Hornets, the Suns fans are yet to see their new forward in action.

The 29-year-old has been sidelined for nearly a month due to a sports hernia. According to recent reports, Martin’s debut is still far away as he is yet to recover from the abdomen injury.

Meanwhile, the Suns will play their first game since the NBA All-Star break against the San Antonio Spurs.

The organization will be keen on snapping their three-game losing streak, but they will have to do it without their newly acquired forward.
