The transfer will possibly break the British record, with add-ons devised to take the total fee to £116million. The sum of £100million is guaranteed to Leverkusen in any case.
Wirtz reportedly rejected the advances of Bayern Munich and Manchester City to join Liverpool, being impressed with the clarity of the future plans presented by the Merseysiders. He flew to the north-west of England on Thursday, undergoing his medical on Friday morning.
The signing of the 22-year-old attacking midfielder represents another step in realizing ambitions transfer plans for Liverpool, who previously completed the signing of Wirtz’s teammate Jeremie Frimpong. They’ve also reportedly agreed a deal with Bournemouth for left-back Milos Kerkez.
