The Damian Lillard experience hasn’t been an easy ride for him, the Milwaukee Bucks or its fans.
Lillard is in his second season with the Bucks and there is talk around the league the duo between him and Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t working out.
Lillard has been visually frustrated with the lack of progress in year two and the first full season under head coach Doc Rivers. He is known to voice his frustrations either through his body language or through social media.
On Tuesday, Lillard had another moment of anger voicing his frustrations through Instagram.
A fan page of the Portland Trail Blazers, Lillard’s former team, called out Lillard for his struggles to get his new team on a consistent winning streak.
Lillard had no problems calling out the fans who felt salty about how he felt he needed to force his departure with a team he spent his first 11 years in the league with.
“Fake ass mfs”, he wrote, in reaction to a post mocking his poor start this season with the Bucks.
The relationship between Lillard and the Trail Blazers nation could’ve been much better if Lillard hadn’t force his way out and the team hadn’t turn the team from a playoff contender to a bottom-of-the-league team. The Trail Blazers had accumulated an overall record of 60-104 in the last two seasons with Lillard as the star.
There isn’t much hope that the relationship between Lillard and Trail Blazers fans will recover. The relationship is too tarnished and still fresh as both sides are thinking about what could have been in Portland.
The problem with the state of play with the Bucks is that the two stars are playing well. Lillard and Antetokounmpo are both statistically playing great, but there is a clear lack of communication and understanding on the court between the entire team. The team is too slow to switch coverages and man-on-man, transition to the opposite side of the court and recognize the opponent’s defensive schemes.
The Bucks started the season losing six of the first seven games. Their only win was a season-opener win over an even more disappointing Philadelphia 76ers. Milwaukee has seemed to have found a rhythm as they won three of the last four games, including a 101-100 home over the Houston Rockets on Monday.
The Bucks need to find some way to communicate better if they want to save their Eastern Conference title hopes. Milwaukee will host the Chicago Bulls (6-9), who has been a lot during the season but has displayed mor communication. Trail Blazers will be watching if Lillard had the potential to lead his team to a deep playoff push. As of right now, those salty fans are right about their former star.
