Despite the departure of Jimmy Butler, the Miami Heat still managed to net some several good returns. And one of them has been Davion Mitchell.

As part of the blockbuster deal that saw the transfer of Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors this past month, Davion Mitchell was sent to the Miami Heat from the Toronto Raptors.

Mitchell, drafted as the ninth overall pick of the 2021 Draft, saw a significant decrease in production for years since he tallied 11.5 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.2 boards in his rookie season for the Sacramento Kings.

But now, being in Miami, the gritty defensive guard is savoring every bit of the opportunities he is obtaining with the franchise.

Mitchell and the Heat have been deemed by many as a good fit for each other. As Miami is renowned for the ‘Culture’ it possesses that centers around hard work, dedication, and teamwork, landing a talent like Mitchell, who possesses those qualities, is considerably intriguing.

Even though Mitchell is yet to get fully adjusted around the team, Jaime Jaquez Jr. is already witnessing some promising traits from his new teammate.

In his appearance on The Deep 3 podcast, the Heat forward offered nothing but praise about how Mitchell is doing thus far in the Heat.

“I mean, he’s incredible,” he said about Mitchell. “I’ve obviously played against him.

“His tenacity and the way that he just always defends the ball and always on the go, that’s something that’s really a talent. He’s just always on the go and it’s a skill.

“He’s going to be great and I’m really excited to continue the rest of the year with him.”

Numbers already prove why Mitchell is complementing well for the Heat. Since landing in South Beach right after the Feb. 6 trade deadline, the 26-year-old instantly earned the trust of head coach Erik Spoelstra and also earned the praise of team captain Bam Adebayo.

He started in all of his eight games right now for the Heat, tallying 10.0 points to go with 4.1 assists, 1.8 boards, and 1.1 steals.

And from being a non-shooting player, he’s now developing greatly with a career-best 53.6 percent efficiency from the field (50.0% from three).

Mitchell’s progress for the Heat over the rest of the season is certainly worth watching.
