De’Aaron Fox could be done with the Kings as soon as this season, as one of the most powerful agents in basketball advises him on his next career steps.
De’Aaron Fox is having a fantastic season with the Kings. Fox has stepped his game up to another level this year, putting up some great numbers.
So far this season, Fox is averaging 26.2 points, 6.2 assists, and 5.0 rebounds. He is currently on track to make an All-Star and All-NBA team.
Achieving the latter is important, as it makes him eligible for a massive $345 million supermax extension. But with the way things are going, the Kings might be getting rid of him sooner rather than later.

The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Anthony Slater reported that De’Aaron Fox and his agent, Rich Paul, are assessing the situation in Sacramento.
League sources say Paul… was in Sacramento to meet with general manager Monte McNair and assistant general manager Wes Wilcox before the game.”
“The discussion… was focused on an existential question that needs to be answered if this partnership that began eight seasons ago between Fox and the Kings is going to continue long term.”
Fox hired Paul, a superagent to several NBA stars including LeBron James, in 2022. The decision wasn’t just to secure his money, but his future at a prominent NBA franchise.
De’Aaron Fox is looking to compete on a yearly basis. And if the Kings aren’t able to do that, he is ready to walk away.

It is crucial to note that De’Aaron Fox isn’t looking to leave just yet. He loves the organization and the city and hopes to stay. But he demands to be on a competitive NBA team.
“He has long raved about the Sacramento experience… He wants to be one of the few NBA players who spends their entire career in one location.”
“But the Kings’ beam isn’t burning as bright as it was two seasons ago when Fox and Domantas Sabonis led the group that broke the franchise’s league-record playoff drought.”
“And now, the prospect of him declining an extension again this summer — or perhaps telling them ahead of time that he plans on doing so — would inevitably force the Kings to consider trading Fox rather than losing him for nothing in free agency two summers from now.”
Fox has been with the Kings for seven years now. And in that time, the team has only made the playoffs once. If the Kings want to hold on to him, they need to make another playoff push.
Fox’s contract expires in 2026. He turned down an extension this past summer. And if he turns down another extension next summer, he could be on his way out at the end of this season.
