Derrick White assesses Boston Celtics rookie Baylor Scheierman’s impact on the team.
The Boston Celtics are cruising into the 2025 NBA playoffs as they aim to win back-to-back championships.
They are in phenomenal form which is evident from their nine-game winning streak (second only to the OKC Thunder’s 10-game winning streak).
While the core of the team has been leading well, the C’s have also found a talented rookie this season. Yes, it’s none other than Baylor Scheierman, who has been playing consistent minutes in recent weeks.
Being the starting shooting guard for the Celtics, Derrick White arguably has the most useful insight on Scheierman. After all, the 24-year-old rookie plays the same position.
Prior to the Celtics’ 117-103 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, White dissected Scheierman’s abilities in the pre-game interview.
“He got an opportunity here the last few games and he’s definitely taken advantage of it. He can do a few different things out on the court, not just a shooter, and he’s just kind of showing off his whole game.
“I knew he could pass a little bit but he’s definitely showcased that. Just his swagger and his confidence, that’s just who he is, that’s what you see.”
Considering Scheierman is almost in his mid-20s, he brings a wealth of confidence. Even though he’s an NBA rookie, the Celtics guard can impact the game in various ways.
Scheierman has juggled playing in the NBA and the G League. For some players, it may be tough, but the 24-year-old is actually using it to grow at an impressive rate.
So far, head coach Joe Mazzulla has called on his number in 24 games this season. Scheierman has averaged 3.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game while playing 10.7 MPG.
With the Celtics guard earning more minutes late in the season, if there is one thing he can improve on, it’s his shooting.
As of now, he is shooting 37.3% from the field and 35.8% from the three-point line.
