Donte DiVincenzo gives decisive statement on his Minnesota Timberwolves future

The Minnesota Timberwolves wing didn’t hold back on his future.

The 2024-25 NBA season is rolling into the new calendar year, which means clubs have enough of a sample size to analyze where their season is at. The Minnesota Timberwolves are 17-15, which is subpar when considering they made the Western Conference Finals just one season ago.

While the trade to send Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks looks more than questionable and Julius Randle doesn’t quite fit with the squad, Donte DiVincenzo seems to be a good addition. He’s turning a corner on the season and is finding form with the new year rolling around.

DiVincenzo, at first, seemed like he would have to be moved again. Now, that no longer seems to be the case.

Donte DiVincenzo was angry and resentful after he was traded from the Knicks to the Timberwolves. However, it appears the key role player is starting to find a home in the Twin Cities as he builds his family.

Recently, the official Timberwolves social media account shared quite a candid quote from DiVincenzo, where he stated his future intentions with Minnesota.

“I’m raising my family here. It’s a beautiful city,” DiVincenzo said. “I want to be here. Now just go play.”

Being able to adjust to life in a new city while carving out a home is crucial to a player’s performance on the court. DiVincenzo was teammates with multiple of his Villanova teammates from way back when, which was comforting. The Knicks had a tight-knit culture. Then he was traded.

It seems DiVincenzo is turning a corner both on and off the court in Minneapolis, which is crucial for the squad this season.

The Timberwolves have fallen short of expectations this season. That much is no secret. One key issue has been the floor spacing and lack of shooting surrounding Anthony Edwards, the club’s franchise player.

DiVincenzo converted on 40.1% 3-pointers a season ago. With him finding his form again, if he can achieve that mark from deep, Edwards will have much more spacing to work with, as will Randle, who is looking to get comfortable within the system himself.

Being capable of playing a part in patching the team’s biggest hole, the Timberwolves would massively benefit from the Villanova product fully finding his form in Minnesota. Still, roster moves might be needed if the Timberwolves want to compete at the highest level, as the pairing of Randle and Rudy Gobert down low just might not work out.
