Draymond Green explains ‘alarming’ reason why Oklahoma City Thunder might not be ready to win NBA title

Draymond Green has explained the one reason why the Oklahoma City Thunder might not be ready to win the NBA championship.

The Thunder were the surprise package of the 2023-24 season – winning 57 games and finishing as the number-one seed in the Western Conference.

But Mark Daigneault’s team are no longer underdogs. Even though they are one of the youngest teams in the league, some have predicted them to win the title.

A four-time NBA champion, the Golden State Warriors forward knows what it takes to be the best team in the league.

And has one concern about the Oklahoma City Thunder’s chances of winning the NBA title this season, despite their talent and 3-0 record.

“The one thing I would say about them is there’s a certain readiness you need to win – and I don’t care how old you are. I won my first championship in my third year – Steph [Curry’s] sixth year and Klay [Thompson’s] fourth year,” he said on The Draymond Green Show.”

“We used to joke around, pour water on a guy’s head after the game and do stuff like that every now and then – not every time. But the one thing I see with the OKC team that is a little alarming for me is their post-game – like seven guys in the interview.

“There’s a certain seriousness you need to win in this league. And there’s a certain fear you need to instil in teams. And I just don’t know if they’re instilling fear in teams with all the bromance and stuff after the games.”

While Green thinks the Thunder’s post-game antics are an issue, he did not stop short of complimenting their talented roster.

“OKC definitely has some special talent,” he added. “Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is one of the best players in the league and I don’t think there’s anyone who would debate that.

“I think he’s going to put himself in that MVP category, possibly compete for it, and possibly come home with it. Jalen Williams is special, Chet Holmgren is special.”

The Thunder also have Luguentz Dort and new additions Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein, making them one of the deepest teams in the NBA.
