Dwight Howard alleges his Los Angeles Lakers tenure was ended by LeBron James.
Dwight Howard had three separate runs with the Los Angeles Lakers over his 18-year NBA career. Two of his three runs included forming a team with his former Eastern Conference rival, LeBron James.
Howard’s most notable stint with the team came during the 2019-20 NBA season when he helped the Lakers win their first NBA title since 2010.
The 3x NBA Defensive Player of the Year was surprisingly allowed to leave the Lakers the following season, and Howard seems to know why.
Even at 40 years old, James is one of the best players in the league. A couple of years ago, when Dwight was a Laker, he was a tad bit better.
While Howard played an instrumental role in the team’s 2020 championship run, he believes calling him a b____ on the defensive end led to his Lakers exit.
“I said that, man, and I got kicked off the Lakers. So I know how you feel,” Howard told Mario Chalmers, via Above The Rim with DH12.
He continued: “You can’t say that. I said that one time, and I was off the team. That’s the year after we won the championship.
“It happened on the defense. I was like, ‘Yo! You got to get back’ and he got mad because I was like, ‘Stop acting like a b____.’”
The discussion started when Chalmers claimed that he called James the B-word during their time together in Miami.
Chalmers is well-known for being an outspoken LBJ critic, but it was shocking to see Howard making the same admission about James.
After being allegedly kicked off the team, Howard joined the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2020-21 NBA season.
However, his partnership with Philly didn’t last long as he left the team the next year. He returned to the Purple and Gold for the 2021-22 NBA season.
It was the final time fans saw Howard on an NBA court as he is yet to make his return to the league since then. He has, however, played overseas during his time away from the NBA.
As for Dwight’s second run with the King, it was far from ideal, as the Lakers ended up missing the playoffs.
