Dwyane Wade has finally revealed what he feels about Norman Powell being traded to the Miami Heat.
The 2019 NBA champion was part of the three team trade that saw him move to the Heat.
Norman Powell revealed he was shocked initially when the news of the trade was broken to him.
However, he went on to talk about how it was a full-circle moment for him, as he was a fan of Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade.
Almost a week after the trade was officially announced, Wade has now spoken and it is safe to say that he likes the move for the team.
As one of the greatest players of the franchise, Wade is loved by a lot of current players because of what he did with the Heat.
Powell is certainly one of them and he made that evident when he signed with the Heat.
While discussing Powell’s introduction to the Heat and what he could do with the franchise, Wade made his feelings clear about the move.
“He’s taking pieces of different people’s game, and he’s given me some love, what he’s taking from me or not taking from me, but what he saw that I did and he’s utilizing in his own game. And so it’s cool to have that connection.
“It’s a dream for him to put that jersey on, because he grew up watching one of his favorite players play in that jersey.
“It’s gonna be an emotional night for him I’m sure, when he actually gets out there and actually puts that jersey on,” Wade said.

The Hall of Famer also went on to speak about how special Powell was for the LA Clippers last year.
He said: “Y’all know how good Norman is. He was an All Star this year out there in the West. And so for the Heat, to be able to get a player like that with Bam, with Tyler, as a one-two options like, alright great, let’s go.
“This is a perfect place for him to get to that next level that he was just on the cusp of.”
“Miami loves competitors, and Norman Powell is that. It’s another step for where you want Miami to turn to get this team right back on track.”
Last year, Powell proved to the world that he can be an All-Star caliber player if given the chance to do so for a team.
He led the way for them in the absence of Kawhi Leonard at the start of the year and dropped some big performances.
Powell was dropping All-Star-like numbers, but missed out on being selected, which led to Leonard throwing subtle jabs at the league.
After helping the Toronto Raptors win the championship, Powell moved to the Portland Trail Blazers, before finding an important role in the Clippers rotation.
Season | Points | Rebounds | Assists |
2024-25 | 21.8 | 3.2 | 2.1 |
2023-24 | 13.9 | 2.6 | 1.1 |
2022-23 | 17 | 2.9 | 1.8 |
He was a high-level scorer off the bench, but often stepped up as a starter.
The Miami Heat have certainly lacked a scoring spark since the exit of Jimmy Butler, which is exactly what Powell brings.
Although he is not as good as Butler, Powell competes and gives his all for the team.
The 32-year-old is someone who certainly fits with the Heat and it will be interesting to see how the franchise uses him next season.
