Ernie Johnson offers LeBron James advice as he makes NBA history with son Bronny, shares heartwarming story

The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most historical franchises in the NBA history.

The NBA opening night is always highly anticipated as is. The league schedules some of the top, most notable teams in the league to square off, as well as the reigning champion to raise the banner and receive their rings.

On Tuesday, the second game of the double-header consisted of the Los Angeles Lakers, who hosted the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Lakers were able to set history, as LeBron James and Bronny James became the first-ever father-son duo to hit the hardwood together in the NBA.

All eyes were on the Lakers as they made history, and Bronny might have only logged three minutes, but it might be the best three minutes in his career.

Another father-son duo was in the stands for the contest, as Ken Griffey and Ken Griffey Jr. showed their support to Bronny and LeBron.

Host of “Inside the NBA” and a prominent figure of TNT Sports, Ernie Johnson, had a similar experience in his career with his father. He’s got experience sharing the broadcast booth with his father in his career, and he was able to share strong advice for LeBron in regard to playing with his son.

“For LeBron James and looking at this opportunity and will it happen and can it happen, LeBron, soak it in and enjoy every second. Because it doesn’t get any better than that,” Johnson continued.

Johnson has some merit in giving LeBron advice for the moment. On the show, he shared a heartwarming story about himself.

Before Johnson became the face of Inside the NBA, he was in the broadcast booth covering the Atlanta Braves, and he overlapped for some time in the booth with his father.

“This gets personal for me, because as much fun as I have had through the years working with you guys and everybody else at TBS and TNT, nothing will ever match the opportunity I had in the ’90s to work with my dad and to call ballgames with my dad, shoulder to shoulder,” Johnson said.

Despite the negativity that might circulate with Bronny making the NBA and having so much attention as the No. 55 pick, it’s refreshing for Johnson and the Griffeys to show their support to the Jameses.

Johnson truly is a notable voice and character on the “Inside the NBA” show on TNT, which has an uncertain future with NBA rights being dealt with. Still, the show could remain strong, just not being tethered to the broadcast of the games themselves.
