The Golden State Warriors are enduring a tough run after an incredible start to the season, which saw them flying with a 12-3 record. Now they have fallen to 16-16.
At 10th place in the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors are now looking like anything but contenders.
A recent trade for Dennis Schroder has not yet had the desired impact, with the Warriors suffering a handful of heavy defeats, including a 144-93 loss to the Grizzlies. They ended 2024 with a loss to the Cavs.
Key stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have expressed their frustration too, admitting they are a long way from title contention.
Draymond Green has warned his teammates to buckle up, admitting that any player outside of Stephen Curry faces being traded.
Green was quoted: “You gotta win games or I told the guys we all gonna get traded out of here so we better win some games.”
The veteran’s comments include himself, he is savvy enough to recognize his roster spot is no longer guaranteed.
Green’s 6.3 rebounds per game are his lowest since the 6.2 per game in 2019-20, while his assists per game of 5.6 is his lowest since 2014-15.
Former NBA star Lou Williams addressed Draymond Green’s comments, on Run It Back TV, offering praise for the Warriors veteran.
Williams said: “He’s a very realistic pro, I love that, that’s what I love about Draymond Green, ever since he became this dynamic personality since they started winning championships.
“They’re realistic with expectations and what’s expected of them as a team. He’s never _______ed anybody about what they should what they should do, and the things that they should go out there and accomplish.
“At this point, everything that they’ve been able to do as an organization, you can kind of see that they’re going in the wrong direction as far as trying to compete for championships.
“He’s being very realistic, he even knew that that could be an opportunity for him to be traded last year.
“There was slightly some talk a year before that, and so this is just him being realistic, being honest with guys, and being the leader that he’s always been for this team.”
Golden State need their stars to start playing better, as there is not a great deal they can do to change their trajectory via the trade market.
A move for a Jimmy Butler or Zach LaVine have been floated yet are seen as unlikely, while Lou Williams has already expressed doubts the Warriors would want to trade away young star Jonathan Kuminga.
