Georges Niang was traded away at the deadline to the Atlanta Hawks, and is beginning to settle into his new team.
At 31-years-old, Georges Niang was traded for the first time in his career. When he had switched teams previously, it was either through free agency, or at the very start when he was waived by the Pacers.
Niang had been a part of the Eastern Conference topping Cleveland Cavaliers, before being traded to the Atlanta Hawks as part of the DeAndre Hunter deal.
While the Hawks are heading for the post-season, via the Play-In Tournament, they are not viewed as viable title contenders like the Cavaliers appear to be.
Georges Niang admitted it was a whirlwind experience being traded, and even with his experience in the NBA, he felt the need to impress.
Before the All-Star break Niang missed a potential game-winning three against the Knicks, an opportunity blown to introduce himself spectacularly since to his new team.
In the subsequent weeks he has settled in. Over the past two games he has scored 43 points, 20 against the 76ers and 23 a game earlier vs the Warriors, in a big upset win.
Niang’s three-point shooting has come together, he also has a 24 point showing for the Hawks against the Pacers.
And in his games vs the Sixers and Warriors, Niang managed what he had never done before during his various career stints with Philadelphia, the Utah Jazz, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
During the past two games, Niang has scored five three-pointers or more – the first time in his career he has managed this feat in back to back games.
He became just the third player in Atlanta Hawks history to manage this feat, following Bogdan Bogdanovic in 2022 (twice) and Carlos Belinelli in 2017 (twice).
Georges Niang has scored 20 plus points seven times this season, with five of these games coming for the Atlanta Hawks.
He is averaging 25.3 minutes per game on the Hawks, in comparison to the 20.1 he enjoyed on a deeper Cavaliers squad.
Georges Niang | PPG | FG% | 3PT% | RPG | APG |
Cavaliers 24-25 | 8.7 | 47.7 | 40.0 | 3.7 | 1.3 |
Hawks 24-25 | 13.4 | 45.2 | 42.3 | 3.8 | 1.8 |
Niang is bidding to make it three games in a row with five threes or more when the Atlanta Hawks take on the Houston Rockets.
