Giannis Antetokounmpo could turn down Dallas Mavericks trade over one important principle, claims NBA expert

A simple decision for the Dallas Mavericks could yet become a complicated one.

After defying the odds to win the NBA Draft Lottery and land the first overall pick in the upcoming draft, the Dallas Mavericks are in pole position to land Cooper Flagg.

The move to take the widely regarded number one pick should be straightforward. But the Mavericks have a few options.

Jay Williams told Get Up that he believes the Mavericks should attempt to trade the top pick to land a current superstar who may fit their ‘win now’ timeline.

And while Mavericks fans fear Nico Harrison could trade the pick away, there are a few options they might consider, one of which is Giannis Antetokounmpo.

There are a lot of options in play for Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has not made his mind up that he wants to leave the Milwaukee Bucks.

Giannis is ready to explore his options, and the prospect of him moving to the Mavericks is at least a talking point.

Nico Harrison is known for wanting to make a splash, he has proven he is unafraid to make bold decisions, and a trade for Giannis has to be somewhat tempting for him.

From Giannis’ point of view, the move might not be straightforward.

As a one-franchise player his whole career, it has been suggested that the superstar might have a serious distrust of how they treated Luka Doncic.

Yahoo’s Kevin O’Connor posted to X: “Nico will try to trade #1 for Giannis I’d imagine. But why exactly would Giannis want to go to Dallas? Giannis is all about loyalty.

“Can’t imagine he’d see the appeal in the Mavericks anymore after what happened. Any possible Mavs offer other than #1 is weak anyway.”

Giannis is likely to have his pick of potential destinations, and could tell the Milwaukee Bucks where he wants to go. The rest can be figured out afterwards, providing it is feasible.

One current NBA player does not believe in the suggestion put forward on ESPN from Jay Williams that the Mavericks could flip the number one pick for a superstar player.

Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young hit out, writing: “The yearly Jay Will terrible draft take😂 Never gets old.”

The NBA Draft takes place on June 26, so there is plenty of time for speculation in the weeks ahead, and plenty of time for the Dallas Mavericks to explore their options.
