A key cog of the Golden State Warriors has been tagged as someone to watch who could be a part of this season’s trade saga ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline.
According to HoopsHype NBA insider Michael Scotto, Moses Moody is “a name to monitor on the trade market” as his role and exposure remain stagnant for Golden State Warriors despite striking a new deal with the franchise.
“Moody could be part of a package in a bigger deal, and Steve Kerr still doesn’t play him 20 minutes a game,” an anonymous NBA executive claimed.
Moody inked a $39 million extension with the Warriors for three years in October, extending his ties with the team that drafted him for the 14th overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft.
As Scotto suggested, Moody’s run in Golden State is peculiar despite a renewed deal with them. There has been a lack of significant statistical progress for the 22-year-old in the past four seasons.
After averaging career highs in points (8.1) and rebounds (3.0) last season, Moody’s numbers slightly dropped thus far this 2024-25, registering 7.7 markers and 2.0 boards.
From averaging 17.5 minutes per contest, he is currently logging 15.9 minutes for 19 minutes of play.
As such, there was a regular season game instance last month where Moody intriguingly got limited for his on-court play despite his hot production, drawing a hot reaction from Golden State legend Chris Mullin.
In the wake of De’Anthony Melton’s brutal season shutdown due to an ACL injury, the Warriors couldn’t be more desperate to canvass the market and look for a replacement guard that can the veteran guard’s shoes. Salary-wise and given the strong league market demand for serviceable wings, they can utilize Moody in their desire to retool and address several holes within their roster.
Several teams would certainly love to acquire Moody. Given his age, the former Arkansas star still has a sizable room for growth, and his ability to be a pesky perimeter defender and floor stretcher – draining a career-best 38.8 percent three-point efficiency this season – is huge to consider pursuing amongst contenders.
As we approach the first quarter of the 2024-25 season, we can only wait and see how Moody and the Warriors’ partnership will unravel with three months to go before the league marketplace closes its gates.
