Their unbeaten run to 2025 may have ended, but one Detroit Pistons star earned the praise of Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green.
The two sides went into the game in very different levels of form, but the Warriors suffering from a ‘crisis of confidence’ ran out 104-107 winners.
Steph Curry looked back to his best after his recent struggles securing a double-double with a 17-10-6 display, Buddy Hield top-scored for the team though with 19.
Despite the defeat Pistons star Cade Cunningham continued to receive much-deserved plaudits, and he is regularly being tipped as a potential All-Star.
Cunningham has been a huge reason why the Pistons started their 2025 with a perfect 5-0 run before their recent Warriors defeat.
All-Star hopeful Cunningham is not afraid to take risks and his 32-point, six rebound and eight assist performance against the Warriors highlighted this.
The 23-year-old is having his strongest season to date and Warriors’ Green couldn’t help but point out some of his similarities to Mavericks star Luka Doncic.
Speaking to the media Green said: “Cade is a special player at 6’7″, handling the ball and shooting the ball, getting in his spot how he does is special. He gotta a little bit of Luka in him, there’s no speeding him up at all. He’s gonna get to wherever he wants to go whenever he wants to go there.”
Green also highlighted how he believes that Cunningham will be an All-Star this season for the displays he has been putting out.
He continued: “He got this team playing good basketball and they are following behind him. I think he’ll be an All-Star this year, definitely should be.”
It’s no exaggeration that Cunningham has at points single-handedly helped the Pistons to secure wins this season.
The 2021 first-overall draft pick is averaging a stellar 24.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 9.3 assists, which has played a huge part in the Pistons 19-19 record.
Cunningham currently sits seventh in the All-Star voting amongst Eastern Conference guards.
- 1. LaMelo Ball (Charlotte Hornets) – 1,490,227
- 2. Donovan Mitchell (Cleveland Cavaliers) – 1,181,310
- 3. Damian Lillard (Milwaukee Bucks) – 1,019,739
- 4. Jalen Brunson (New York Knicks) – 934,860
- 5. Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks) – 543,839
- 6. Tyrese Maxey (Philadelphia 76ers) – 460,143
- 7. Cade Cunningham (Detroit Pistons) – 401,978
- 8. Jordan Poole (Washington Wizards) – 260,825
- 9. Darius Garland (Cleveland Cavaliers) – 238,358
- 10. Tyler Herro (Miami Heat) – 223,479
Cunningham faces some tough competition and Green has highlighted one thing that could take his game to the next level.
He said: “I think his next area of growth is finding the next guy. We know Cade’s an incredible scorer but how do you get the guys involved that are out there with you.”
Cunningham will be looking to take Green’s advice onboard as the Pistons face the Toronto Raptors as they look to return to winning ways.
