‘How many times do we have to say’… James Worthy comments on LA Lakers star’s performance

LeBron James is an evergreen superstar and his performances this season might just be underrated.

Through the LA Lakers‘ dramatic season, LeBron James has been a constant. The superstar was terrific once again by any measure against the Timberwolves. And then factor in the fact he is 40, it’s even more impressive.

In the win over the T-Wolves, LeBron James had 33 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists. It was a dominant performance, with a big defensive contribution thrown into the mix too.

Earlier in the season, Byron Scott urged fans from around the world to tune in to watch what LeBron is still doing at his age, and the Lakers superstar is showing why.

Former Lakers legend James Worthy spoke to the Lakers post-game show on Spectrum following the 111-102 win over Minnesota, and praised LeBron James.

Worthy referred to LeBron’s consistent level of performance, and ability to adjust his game each and every night dependent on what the team needs, relevant to the performances of the players around him.

“How many times do we have to say it’s amazing to see what he’s doing at 40. Running the baseline for lob dunks. I hope he’s not too sore to play tomorrow.

He added: “He does what he has to do. He sees that Luka wasn’t firing as much so he started to do his thing.

“Defensively, this is some of the best D I’ve seen him play. He’s geared up ready. He sees what’s ahead of them. He knows what the big picture is, and LeBron is just steady trying to keep his team in gear.”

Former NBA champion Robert Horry believes the trade for Luka Doncic is benefitting LeBron James’ game, allowing him to pick and choose his moments more.

He explained: “I think with Luka realized, like, oh, I don’t have to bring it up, even though it is my forte. Let Luka bring it up. Let me get some pot shots, because you have developed a three point shot of your last couple years, that’s better than what you did when you started.

“Not just Luka but AR is making the game easier for LeBron… he’s putting it in cruise control and making it easy for himself.”

Horry’s comments should not be misconstrued. LeBron is still working tremendously hard at both ends of the court, as his 17 rebounds show. He also had one block and one steal.

This season he is averaging 24.7 points per game. That’s not as many as his career-best 30.3 per game average, with the Lakers in 2021-22, but this is a different team – and as Worthy points out, LeBron James is 40.
