Cam Whitmore is excited to be on the Washington Wizards, and has some expectations ahead of the new season.
Cam Whitmore finally gets his opportunity to play a bigger role in the NBA. The young star found himself struggling for minutes with the Houston Rockets.
Ime Udoka explained Whitmore’s place in the rotation was simply because of how deep the Rockets’ roster was.
But this offseason, the Rockets decided to switch things up. The Rockets traded Whitmore to the Washington Wizards in a deal that, quite frankly, didn’t do much for them.
However, the Rockets wanted to do right by Whitmore and get him to a team where he would get the right amount of opportunities.
Now on the Washington Wizards, Whitmore will get that chance. Bill Simmons is all-in on Whitmore on the Wizards. And as it turns out, the young star has a similarly optimistic outlook on his future.
Cam Whitmore spoke in an interview with Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson recently. When discussing his future with the Washington Wizards, Whitmore looked forward to competing.
While vying for success is his goal, he also wants to create a culture for the Wizards where fans come to games expecting some brilliant basketball.
“I’m not gonna lie, I’m really trying to win some games! I want to turn this whole organization around into a positive organization where fans will want to come to the games and fans will want to watch the Wizards play basketball.
“But first, we gotta win. Really, my goal is to win 35, at least 40 games at the max, but the Eastern Conference is up for grabs, and anybody can kind of get in, but a Play-In wouldn’t be too bad either.”
Cam Whitmore also spoke about the transition from being a bench player on the Houston Rockets to being a starter for the Washington Wizards.
For Whitmore, the transition is easy, just because he craved that starting role. And now, on the Wizards, he plans on fulfilling his ambitions.
“No, not really. In my eyes, I kind of wanted that, and I think I’m ready and built for it, but at the end of the day, whatever the coach wants.
“Same thing I did when I was on the Rockets — whatever coach wants me to do, I gotta put some effort into it. But yeah, it’s still what it is.
Whitmore is going to get a lot of playing time alongside Tre Johnson, who will be the team’s foundational pieces along with Bilal Coulibaly and Alex Sarr.
Expect the Wizards to make some noise in a depleted Eastern Conference, and possibly end the season with their best record in years.
