The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, has made a historic announcement related to the match fee of the cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Jay Shah, who became the BCCI secretary in 2019, has made some groundbreaking decisions in his tenure. He will soon leave his role at the Board of Control for Cricket in India as he has been elected as the new Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Jay Shah will take over as the ICC Chairman on 1 December 2024, and before that, he has made yet another major decision alongside the board. The BCCI secretary has announced that the players taking part in the Indian Premier League will be getting a match fee of INR 7.5 lakh in addition to their contracted amount.
Also, the Indian Premier League franchises will be allocating an additional amount of INR 12.60 crore for match fees of the players for a season.
“In a historic move to celebrate consistency and champion outstanding performances in the #IPL, we are thrilled to introduce a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per game for our cricketers! A cricketer playing all league matches in a season will get Rs. 1.05 crores in addition to his contracted amount,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah wrote on X.
“Each franchise will allocate INR 12.60 crores as match fees for the season! This is a new era for the #IPL and our players!,” he further added.

IPL 2025 Mega Auction Retention Rules To Be Announced Soon
Talking further about the Indian Premier League (IPL), a mega auction is set to be held ahead of the 2025 season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is reportedly scheduled to make an announcement on the rules of the retention for the mega auction on Saturday, September 28. Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction is likely to be held in late November or early December.
However, ahead of the official announcement, a couple of media outlets have reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to grant the teams five retentions along with a Right To Match (RTM) for the Indian Premier League 2025 auction.
Also, it has not been revealed whether the teams will be given a certain combination of local and overseas players for retention. Meanwhile, in a major development, the BCCI is also planning to increase the purse of the franchises, and this time around, the teams will be having a purse of INR 115-120 crore.
Ahead of the IPL mega auction, a few teams have also made changes to their coaching staff and have brought in new faces to prepare for the event.
The Punjab Kings (PBKS) recently decided to part ways with Trevor Bayliss, and head of cricket development, Sanjay Bangar, after appointing Ricky Ponting as the new head coach. Also, the Rajasthan Royals have roped in both Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour, who recently parted ways with the India National Cricket Team following a highly successful stint.
