Isaiah Thomas shares honest take on Pelicans draft pick Jeremiah Fears during Summer League, ‘You have to live up to…’

The New Orleans Pelicans selected Jeremiah Fears with the seventh pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Fears was one of the top prospects in the Draft class despite being among the youngest at just 18.

Pelicans fans are even more excited about the selection after seeing flashes of brilliance in the NBA Summer League.

During the Pelicans’ games against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night, Isaiah Thomas shared his opinion on Fears.

Fears already looks destined to become an NBA superstar. He put up 22 points, six rebounds, and six assists against the Thunder.

He has averaged around 16 points in the Pelicans’ four Summer League games in Las Vegas.

The only concern about Fears’ game at the moment is his efficiency, especially from beyond the arc, but that’s to be expected at his age.

Isaiah Thomas is seemingly also convinced that Fears will develop into an excellent point guard, like many from Chicago have.

“He is extremely talented,” Thomas said on NBA TV. “Coming out of Chicago, Derrick Rose, Tim Hardaway, Maurice Cheeks, me, Ronnie Lester.

“There is a boatload of Chicago point guards you have to live up to… He understands the assignment.”

New Orleans Pelicans general manager Joe Dumars received enormous criticism for his NBA Draft selections.

Dumars gave up the Pelicans’ unprotected first-round pick next season to move up 10 spots from 23rd to 13th in the draft.

With the acquired pick, he took 20-year-old big man Derik Queen, who is under immense pressure to succeed because of the situation.

However, Queen has impressed in the Summer League so far, putting up 17 points and 10 rebounds against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.

With Queen and Fears already looking like two of the better rookies in the class, perhaps Dumars deserves an apology.
