Max Christie has taken a significant leap in this 2024-25 campaign.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ young talent obtained plenty of increased exposure across these past few games, and he didn’t disappoint in embracing all of these for personal growth and to help the team win.
This season, Christie’s numbers have significantly improved, averaging career bests in points (6.9), rebounds (2.4), assists (1.2), and minutes (21.4) in which he started in eight of his 29 games wearing purple and gold.
Christie’s development offers optimism around the Lakers which J.J. Redick can only commit for himself.
Redick has given Christie the reps he truly needed at this point in his career. Notably on L.A.’s Christmas Day showdown against the Golden State Warriors, he put his faith on the 21-year-old to play at his best across 34 minutes, and Christie produced promisingly with 16 points, 4 boards, and 2 assists en route to the Lakers’ solid victory.
“Being a young player in his third year and being in endgame situations is huge,” Redick said of Christie after the Lakers’ Friday practice. “Some of these handled really well and some he made mistakes.
“But that’s okay.”
After a lopsided stretch, the Lakers have finally found winning ways again. They have won four of their last five matches and Christie certainly played a huge role in it.
With how he’s been playing great from the opportunities he’s taking, expect Christie to continue his upward movement out of Redick’s utmost trust and green light.
“It’s okay for him. That’s part of development and getting those opportunities now, I think are big,” Redick added.
“I think for him, it’s just been great to have.”
