Jonathan Kuminga stalemate with Golden State Warriors is now set to cost him another opportunity

As Jonathan Kuminga continues to hold out on the Golden State Warriors, he is facing the consequences away from the NBA.

Jonathan Kuminga is in quite a stalemate with the Golden State Warriors. The young forward’s future is still quite unclear.

The Warriors offered Kuminga a two-year, $45 million contract, but with a team option and a demand that he waive his no-trade clause.

Kuminga declined the Warriors offer, and the two sides are back to square one again. And things get even trickier when you consider the Sacramento Kings’ involvement in this.

The Kings are ready to execute a sign-and-trade for Kuminga. But the Warriors don’t want DeMar DeRozan in return, one of the Kings’ key trade assets.

As Kuminga’s $30 million salary demands continue to cause problems in negotiations, the former NBA champion is losing out on other opportunities.

According to Marc Stein, Jonathan Kuminga was initially on the shortlist of players to represent DR Congo at the FIBA Afro Basket tournament in Angola.

However, his current free agency situation has made it so that he won’t be able to make it to camp and represent the team at the tournament, which tips off on August 12th.

“Jonathan Kuminga was on the Democratic Republic of Congo’s preliminary roster for Afro Basket in Angola, which starts Aug. 12.

“But I’m told Kuminga is not expected to play for his national team due to his ongoing restricted free agency stalemate with Golden State.”

This free agency situation between Kuminga and the Warriors has taken on a life of its own. And this is causing him to miss out on a crucial opportunity in international basketball.

It is imperative that the Golden State Warriors come to a decision on the Jonathan Kuminga situation sooner rather than later.

This stalemate between the two sides has prevented the Warriors from making any signings or trades this offseason.

Unless the Warriors change their mind and acquiesce to Kuminga’s demands, there aren’t a lot of options available for them.

As far as Kuminga’s options, the Nets are his only hope. But so far, their front office has shown zero interest in signing him.

Whatever the case may be, it’s in everyone’s best interest for this situation to be wrapped up as soon as possible.
