The Washington Wizards did not get close to pulling off an upset against the Boston Celtics.
The team with the worst record in the NBA is the Washington Wizards, who are 3-21 for the season.
One of those wins came with a stunning victory over the Denver Nuggets, even with Nikola Jokic scoring 56 points, showing that in the NBA, anything can be possible on any given night.
Well, almost anything. The Wizards faced defending champions the Boston Celtics this week, and came up short, losing 112-98.
Jordan Poole scored 21 points against the Boston Celtics, and might have had more, if he had not passed up a scoring opportunity.
Poole had a chance to take an open three, before pointing at a fallen defender on the ground to get the attention of officials, claiming he had flopped.
He was told to play on, and ended up having to pass the ball and missed out on the opportunity to take the shot.
The lack of focus from Poole was discussed on First Take, who called out the Wizards star, arguing it was symptomatic of the franchise.
Shannon Sharpe hit out: “It’s the most Jordan Poole thing ever. Why are we surprised by this?
“At some point in time, the game has got to be the game, you doing all this dancing and clowning around, bro’ take the shot.”
Co-host Stephen A. Smith also used the opportunity to call out Jordan Poole, arguing that it went some way to showing why he is no longer on the Golden State Warriors.
“He gets moved to a situation going from a champion to a team that since he has arrived is 18-88, 70 games under 500, but you showboating? That’s why his ___ is in the nation’s capital.”
Former NBA player Kendrick Perkins also used the segment to dig out the Washington Wizards, and also took a shot at Kyle Kuzma.
Perkins commented: “When the Washington Wizards are on TV, you know what I tell my kids? Go to bed, you don’t need to be picking up bad habits.
“They are an embarrassment to the NBA. Kyle Kuzma is finally seeing that it’s hard to be a number one or number two option and lead a team.
“Now you want to take guys for granted like LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Jordan Poole? That’s just a Jordan Poole thing.”
The Wizards might have a chance in their next game, up against the 7-19 Charlotte Hornets. After that it gets tougher, facing the two NBA Cup finalists.
