Kendrick Perkins calls out Shaquille O’Neal for his comments on Rudy Gobert’s earnings, ‘Rudy is not you bro…’

Kendrick Perkins has given his opinion on another one of Shaquille O’Neal’s rants directed at Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert.

The four-time Defensive Player of the Year has been the subject of criticism from Shaquille O’Neal several times in the past.

While some have been due to his performances for the team, the LA Lakers legend recently also pointed out that Rudy Gobert is unable to justify his massive contract.

However, that has not sat well with Kendrick Perkins, who has now come out in support of Gobert and criticized the other old heads.

When playing for the Utah Jazz, Gobert signed a massive five-year $205 million extension.

It was scrutinized heavily by the media as not many thought the Frenchman deserved to be paid a max deal.

He then moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves and signed a three-year $109 million deal, but O’Neal is still not pleased with Gobert and his performances.

Perkins, who played in the league more recently than O’Neal, came out in support of Gobert and criticized former players for having problems with money that stars in this generation are making.

He said: “It seemed like every single time it’s always a old head bringing up what this new generation is getting paid.

“Why? ‘Yeah Rudy Gobert, he makes $250 million,’ we just addressed Kenyon Martin and Gilbert Arenas talking about Chet Holmgren getting $250 million, like let them guys get paid.

“Shaquille O’Neal in my eyes is the most dominant player to ever play the game of basketball, some may argue but as far as pure dominance that’s who he is. Rudy is not you bro and that’s okay.”

Perkins then went on to add that it was wrong to compare Gobert to other centers from the past.

“You cannot expect Rudy to go out there and put up 24 and 20, that’s not who he is. He is a four-time Defensive Player of the Year and when you look at the numbers, he has that type of impact.

“Has he won a championship? No, has he been able to lead a team like Ben Wallace was anchoring a defense? He hasn’t.

“I’m very critical of players in the way they perform and critiquing their game if they’re not getting the s— done, but I never ever ever count somebody else’s pocket,” the one-time NBA champion added.

Despite all the criticism, there is no doubt that Gobert is one of the best defensive players in the league.

He put on a brilliant performance in the closeout game against the Lakers last season, which earned him much praise from his teammates and coaches.

Although he is yet to win a championship, Gobert has a stacked resume with four DPOY trophies and multiple All-Star appearances.

O’Neal revealed he would go to Gobert’s Hall of Fame Ceremony in a dress if he made it there.

Perkins’ former teammate Richard Jefferson also chimed in on the conversation around Gobert and stated O’Neal would likely have to be in a dress, as he was sure that Gobert would be inducted into the HOF.

Jefferson said: “Rudy Gobert is going to be a Hall of Famer. It is a 99.8% chance based off of his Defensive Player of the Years, there are people with less that have gotten in.

“He is going to get in and when you look at his contributions internationally that will also go into that.

“Shaq, congratulations. You 1000% will be wearing a dress and I hope that you’re not one of those that talk big and all of a sudden that don’t fulfill that promise cause he [Gobert] will make the Hall of Fame.”
