Former NBA player Danny Green makes tall claims about Kevin Durant’s position in the all-time debate.
The Phoenix Suns are currently on a six-game losing streak as they will play their fourth straight game without Kevin Durant, who has been sidelined due to an ankle injury.
Without Durant, the Suns are all but certain to miss the NBA Play-In tournament and a shot to clinch a berth in the 2025 postseason.
If the Suns miss the playoffs this season, many believe Durant could demand a move away from Phoenix this offseason. Many believe it will tarnish his legacy and fans will think less of Durant as a player.
While many have questioned the Slim Reaper’s NBA legacy, often putting him below the likes of LeBron James and Stephen Curry, former LA Lakers guard Danny Green has a slightly different take on it via the latest episode of Run It Back.
“I have him above a lot of people I don’t have him above. I have him above Steph, we are never going to see a better scorer than him. At 7ft, Chet [Holmgren], Wemby [Victor Wembanyama], very talented skill, but they are not Kevin Durant.
“This guy was unbelievable, for him to do it for 16, 17 years still shooting 50-40-90, he’s one of the best to ever do it.”
Green believes Durant’s ability to score from all levels of the floor at his physique is truly unique. Sure, there are a few who have been labeled as the next KD, but Green highly doubts they will live up to the expectations.
For context, Durant has averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. He has battled with a few injuries, but as a 36-year-old that’s expected.
At the start of his career, Durant was one of the most beloved superstars in the NBA. However, it all changed when he ditched the OKC Thunder and joined the 73-9 Golden State Warriors.
Keeping that in mind, Green believes that’s the only thing that’s a tarnish on KD’s NBA legacy.
“People don’t like the way he won, he got two [Finals] MVPs, they don’t like that he went there, and I’m not a fan of it, but even if he didn’t do that, I still think he’s one of the greatest to ever lace them up, just because of what he’s been able to do at seven feet. He’s the hardest guy that I’ve hard to guard.”
As Green pointed out, Durant’s skills as a player are top-notch, but the way he won his two titles will forever hurt the 15x NBA All-Star’s GOAT case over other legends.
