Former NBA Champion Kevin Durant is already assured of his place in the basketball history books.
The question is now, just how big will Kevin Durant’s legacy be?
The Phoenix Suns star is a former MVP and won two championships with the Golden State Warriors, and has since fought back from a serious injury.
At the age of 36 Kevin Durant is still going strong and is among the superstars to watch when the new NBA season tips off next week.
Along with the Phoenix Suns’ ambitions, Kevin Durant is hurtling towards a personal milestone of his own.
Kevin Durant is nearing the 30,000 regular-season points mark and barring disaster he should reach the total during the 2024/25 NBA season.
Only seven players in NBA history have scored 30,000 points in the regular-season. Only one is still playing, all-time leader LeBron James.
Player | Points |
LeBron James* | 40,474 |
Kareem Abdul-Jabar | 38,387 |
Karl Malone | 36,928 |
Kobe Bryant | 33,643 |
Michael Jordan | 32,292 |
Dirk Nowitzki | 31,560 |
Wilt Chamberlain | 31,419 |
Kevin Durant | 28,924 |
Kevin Durant needs to score 1,076 points during the upcoming NBA regular season to reach the 30,000 point mark and become the eighth ever player to do so.
If Durant were to play all 82 regular season games, that would require him to score an average of just 13 points per game.
Last season Durant played 75 regular season games on the Phoenix Suns and averaged 27.1 points per game.
If Durant is able to score at the same 27.1 average points per game rate this season, then it would take him just 39.7 games to reach the 30,000 points barrier.
That means he should reach the total in late February or early March, just after the mid-February All-Star break. But if he can increase his scoring average – he has a chance to get there beforehand.
Nonetheless the feat looks inevitable as Durant looks to cement his status among the NBA’s all-time greats.
