Kevin Durant hits back at claim his ‘big toe’ was reason Brooklyn Nets failed to win championship

Kevin Durant gets in back-and-forth with NBA fans on X over his legacy.

Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors in 2016 altered a plethora of NBA legacies. KD became arguably the most hated basketball player in the NBA during his three-year stint with the Dubs.

But Durant’s quest for superteams didn’t end there, as he would go on to join the Brooklyn Nets with Kyrie Irving.

Later, James Harden joined the Nets as well and formed an elite Big 3. However, Durant and co. severely underperformed during their Nets era as the Slim Reaper demanded a trade out of Brooklyn in the middle of his third season.

Looking back at Durant’s Nets stint, the organization was arguably on its way to lifting the Larry O’Brien trophy in 2021.

But as we know it, the dream was shattered when Durant’s three-point shot was called as a two-pointer in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. One NBA fan recently brought that memory back for KD on X.

“All of this is BS because of your big a__ toe… you would’ve easily won that championship and nobody would have been talking about your sensitive a__,” an NBA fan wrote.

Durant quickly responded: “I think injuries played a bigger factor than my toe, but the toe is a sexier story.”

For context, the Nets Big 3 played just 16 games together. Injuries indeed ruined what could have been one of the dominant trios of all time. But till date, fans troll Durant for his infamous toe-over-the-line shot.

From 2015 to 2018, the Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers faced off in the NBA Finals four straight times. While the two sides split their first two matchups, KD joining the Dubs certainly tipped the scale in their favor.

A fan recently blamed Durant for ruining the supposed dynasty in Cleveland, tweeting: “Oh man [Kevin Durant] f___ you bro for ruining what would have been a dynasty in Cleveland.”

As expected, Durant clapped back at the fan: “I rejoice every morning that it didn’t happen.”

A few fans tried getting back at the former NBA MVP, but he simply made fun of them by claiming history won’t change regardless of how much the fans may want it to.
