The New Orleans Pelicans are on the same old ground once again.
The New Orleans Pelicans still can’t quite catch a break after all the frustrating years that have passed. From the injuries, competitive shortcomings, and inconsistencies, it’s quite sad to think that they haven’t made progress yet despite boasting one of their most promising recent rosters bannered by both Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram.
And even though they made a splash this past summer by acquiring Dejounte Murray, there’s nothing new around the Pels being one of the league’s cellar dwellers this season with an 11-32 record.
When teams are not winning, there are often rumblings behind the scenes. With the Pelicans these have related to the uncertain future with Ingram and the constant inactivity of Williamson, Kevin Garnett feels there is a lot more to it.
Garnett dropped this intriguing claim on the latest segment of his KG Certified.
He said: “Look at the situation in New Orleans. Listen, Willie Green has bent over backwards, forwards, however way you can go with it.
“He’s put in a position now where he’s had to put his foot down, and set some real standards in, I think it’s over. That whole thing was over.
“You know what they do a good job of? They do a great job of keeping that _____ in house. Because you can see from the outside that _______ is burning from the inside. We see that.
“It’s starting to leak a little bit.”
It is certainly a cryptic sentiment from Garnett. And it may relate to Zion Williamson’s recent suspension for lateness, hinting at a lack of discipline – just after returning to action.
And of course tensions and urgency could be off the charts already as the disappointing season continues, with players looking for a way out..
After years of frequent disappointment, it might truly be time for the Pelicans to admit that they have to take a hard reset and start from scratch again which could begin by cutting their ties with Williamson.
With plenty of future assets to be built around, they have a considerable choice to construct a new and much better long-term look. Also, installing a new front office leadership is also an understandable move.
As it’s already safe to assume that this year serves has been a depressing one again for the Pelicans, and the next steps are key for the franchise.
