Klay Thompson enjoyed the best game of his Dallas Mavericks career to shoot the team to a win over Golden State.
Last night Klay Thompson won the battle of the Splash Brothers, now divided on different teams.
Thompson’s Dallas Mavericks won 143-133 against the Golden State Warriors, a game that was a fitting showcase of three-point shooting.
The Warriors amazingly scored 27 threes and still ended up losing the game, in-part due to Thompson’s 29 point contribution.
Klay Thompson is one of the greatest three-point shooters in history, and once famously scored 37 points in a single quarter.
Thompson was genuinely happy to see both teams put on a clinic of efficient three point shooting, combating a recent narrative that has seen teams criticised for taking and missing too many threes, and giving up easy baskets.
He told a press conference: “It’s nice to counter that, because a lot of fans think too many threes are being attempted.
“So it’s nice to show that shooting is still credible this league.”
The former Warriors star went 7-11 from three against his old team.
Thompson then added he believes a four-point line will be introduced to the game eventually.
He said: “I really believe as the game gets longer as far as years play, maybe it’ll be a four point line one day.”
This is not the first time Klay Thompson has talked about adding a four-point rule in the NBA.
Speaking way back in 2017, Thompson was quoted by TMZ discussing the idea, commenting: “I think it would only really benefit us.”
Yet the timing of his comments now are a little different, at a moment when many would like to see three-pointers limited or scrapped.
If a four-point rule is introduced, it would likely be a long time after Thompson is retired.
