Klay Thompson’s first comment after reaching 16,000 career points is about LeBron James, ‘that’s insane’

Klay Thompson completed a major career milestone during the Dallas Mavericks’ recent matchup against the Denver Nuggets.

With Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving dealing with major injury troubles, Klay Thompson has become the natural primary scoring option for the Dallas Mavericks.

The 4x NBA champion fulfilled his role perfectly against the Denver Nuggets as he finished the night with 25 points to his name.

Despite Klay’s impressive scoring outburst, he couldn’t help the Mavs avoid suffering a 112-101 defeat.

Over the years, Thompson has established himself as one of the best shooters of this generation. Despite playing behind Stephen Curry for the majority of his career, Thompson has impressive scoring feats under his name.

With that said, the 34-year-old added another feather to his cap following his 25-point performance vs. the Nuggets.

Thompson is now officially a member of the 16k career points club, joining many all-time NBA greats.

To be precise, Klay has 16,013 points to his name in 827 games as he now holds the 123rd position on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

After the game, Thompson was showered with praise from fans. He was also asked for his honest opinion on reaching the important career milestone.

“It’s cool, but it makes you realize how ridiculous it is that LeBron [James] has 40,000 that’s insane. But it’s cool. Anytime you do something like that in the NBA, it’s a special moment,” Thompson said.

Many have tried to undermine LeBron James’ scoring record as a feat of longevity, but even then, he remains the only player in NBA history to have more than 40,000 career points.

The King is currently at 41,261 points and if all goes well, there is a very real chance that he may break the 45k points barrier before retiring from the league.
