The Detroit Pistons didn’t hold back at poking fun at Kyle Kuzma after a Sunday matchup.
The Detroit Pistons got the best of the Washington Wizards recently, capturing a 124-104 victory to propel them to an impressive 7-8 record. While a losing record in itself isn’t impressive, Detroit started the season with four straight losses.
Starting from behind, the Pistons have found a defensive identity and have begun winning games at an impressive clip. On Sunday, they took down the Wizards in a dominant victory. The club then took a jab at Kyle Kuzma over a situation from a while back.
Expect plenty of the Pistons’ social media team to get back at many who poked fun at the franchise after years of being unable to find their footing.
Last season, Detroit started their season winless. It came to a point where it was going to be embarrassing if a team was their first victory.
Kuzma made this clear, stating he didn’t want to be the one to lose to the Pistons to give them a win.
One year later, Kuzma’s comments regarding the Pistons came back to bite him. After Washington suffered a large defeat, the Pistons brought back a “don’t be that team” reference, referring to what the Wizards forward said last season.
The Pistons are seemingly getting the last laugh in the “rivalry” between the club and the former NBA champion.
Evidently, Kuzma’s comments, at the time, were valid. No team wanted to be the one to break the Pistons’ losing streak. They lost 28 straight games, with their win to break their historical streak ironically coming against the champions, the Boston Celtics.
However, the Wizards are 2-10 at the moment and are a laughingstock in the league with no real direction.
The Wizards forward wasn’t going to let Detroit mock him, however. The former Los Angeles Lakers NBA Champion had words for the tweet, responding directly to the post.
“Took you a whole year to clap back,” Kuzma responded.
Again, Kuzma has some merit here. Last year, his comments were true.
The Pistons were the laughing stock in the league. However, things move fast in the NBA and the Wizards aren’t a good team, meaning they’re going to catch some flack.
That doesn’t take away from the Pistons’ validity to pull receipts and make a reference of the situation. Still, they’ve got some added pressure to maintain their success now.
The Wizards are tied for the worst record in the league while the Pistons are somehow in the thick of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference, despite a losing record.
