LeBron James doesn’t want the Los Angeles Lakers fanbase to get ahead of themselves following an incredible win vs. the Boston Celtics.
Any game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics is bound to be full of entertainment for the NBA community.
The expectations were the same for their recent battle during the 2024-25 NBA season. However, the Lakers shocked fans with a one-sided win against the defending champions of the league.
While it was an impressive win, team leader LeBron James wants the fanbase and the media to stay humble.
On paper, the Purple and Gold are just one championship behind the Celtics in NBA history. But it’s obvious that the C’s are currently in a much better position than the Lakers.
As a result, most fans expected the Celtics to handle the LA Lakers with ease. Instead, they suffered a 21-point defeat away from home. Even with a dominant win under their belt, James had a nonchalant reaction to the victory.
“No, nope. It sure doesn’t. I can tell from the enthusiasm in your voice, heard that question too many times in my career. Absolutely not. It’s one game,” James told the media.
“They host the Larry O’Brien trophy, we are trying to aspire to get there. We just want to continue to work on our habits and our game. So, absolutely it does not,” James concluded.
Even before the reporter could ask the question, James cut him off. To be honest, it’s great to see that from the Lakers’ leader.
After all, the Celtics are still the defending champions of the NBA, and they were playing the Lakers on the second night of a back-to-back schedule. It doesn’t take away from what the Lakers did, but the fanbase should contain their excitement before making huge predictions about the 17-time NBA champs.
There have been times when the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis have put the team on their back to win games.
However, against a team of the Celtics’ caliber, individual heroics can only get you so far. The Lakers understood this and it showed in the box score.
Three LA Lakers players finished the game with at least 20 points, while a total of six players finished in double-digits scoring.
Moreover, the Lakers played elite defense, and it showed in the Celtics’ poor three-point shooting during the game.
