Lou Williams warns Houston Rockets not to ‘overreact’ with trade unless they sign one NBA player

The Houston Rockets have made an impressive start to the NBA season but have seen a dip in form in their last two outings.

The Rockets currently sit fourth in the Western Conference with an impressive record of 15-8, however, they have lost their last two games.

Their recent loss against the Golden State Warriors saw the team continue an unwanted record.

After a few losses, there will inevitably be some talk about the franchise making potential changes to the side.

In recent weeks the team have been linked with a trade for Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler.

However, former Rockets player Lou Williams has warned the team against making an ‘overreaction’.

With the NBA trade deadline not until February 8th teams still have plenty of time to bring in players who could impact their season.

While many NBA fans enjoy the circus that surrounds potential trades, Lou Williams has warned the Rockets against making any rash decisions.

Speaking on Fan Duels’ Run It Back, Williams said: “I don’t think you need to overreact and feel like you have to go out and get somebody else. The point is you bring these young guys on and turn them into the All-Stars that you want them to be.”

Williams explained that he hasn’t seen the Rockets play as well as they have this season in the last three years.

He said: “In the last three years this is probably the best basketball they’ve played. If you’re Ime Udoka you don’t react [to the Warriors loss] and try to bring somebody in.”

Despite warning the Rockets against any knee-jerk singings there was one player that Williams would be happy for them to go out and sign.

Williams said: “If you can go out and get a Giannis [Antetokounmpo] or somebody like that then by all means you’re giving yourself that opportunity but if you’re the Houston Rockets you don’t overreact.”

The Rockets have been linked with a move that could see Jimmy Butler return to his birthplace of Houston.

Michael Soto of HoopsHype reported that the Rockets and the Mavericks are eying Butler as a trade option.

Butler is averaging 18.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game for the Heat this season and could be a strong addition to the Rockets team.

Chandler Parsons explained on FanDuel’s Run It Back that the Rockets would be a good location for Butler.

“I think it’s the Houston Rockets, who are right there and fits that culture, he fits that DNA, he would be with (Ime) Udoka.

“I think there are enough vets in that locker room where he’s going to grind, he’s going to buy into what they’re doing.”

While the Rockets do not need to make a panicked trade a deal for Butler could take them to the next level.
