Dallas Mavericks fans let their feelings be known throughout Luka Doncic’s first game back as a Los Angeles Laker.
The Los Angeles Lakers handily defeated the Dallas Mavericks. It was an emotional night for Luka Doncic, who made his grand return to Dallas after being traded.
Luka anticipated an emotional affair upon his return, despite snubbing Nico Harrison. And he was right, as Doncic was moved to tears by the tribute video the Mavericks played for him.
But he didn’t let that stop him from having a brilliant night. The Slovenian superstar dropped an amazing 45-point performance to help the Lakers get the win.
Doncic, despite now being in enemy territory, was showered with love by the fans. And Nico Harrison was given the exact opposite treatment.

Speaking after the Lakers’ win over the Mavericks, Luka Doncic sent a simple message to the Mavericks’ fanbase. While he loved his time with them, he thinks both sides need to move on.
“I love these fans, I love this city, but it’s time to move on.”
These words will sting hard for Mavericks fans. Especially considering how they backed Luka, despite being an opposition player.
In fact, at several points in the night, the fans broke into chants of ‘Fire Nico’, calling for the GM’s job for trading Doncic.
Even worse, the Mavericks gave Doncic a standing ovation, along with a ‘Luka’ chant, before once again going after Nico Harrison.

Luka Doncic loved his time with the Mavericks. But that part of his career is over, whether he wanted it to be or not.
It’s right for him to focus on the future. Plus, while he loves the team, the front office didn’t treat him well. Doncic admitted to feeling disrespected as the Mavericks’ front office put negative stories out about him.
Luka Doncic has been phenomenal for the Lakers. In fact, he has brought a lot of the same energy he had with the Mavericks to their team.
Zach Lowe recently pointed out how Doncic, JJ Redick, and the Lakers emulated the 2024 Mavericks against OKC Thunder. If they continue to do so, they could topple OKC in the playoffs and make a title push.
