Magic Johnson reacts to LA Lakers win over Golden State Warriors, praises ‘superb’ player

The LA Lakers extended their narrow lead over the Golden State Warriors with a win on Christmas Day.

A battle of two inconsistent Western Conference teams took place on Christmas Day when the LA Lakers took on the Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers came out on top, winning a closely contested game 115-113 with a late game winner from Austin Reaves.

It moved the Lakers to 17-13, sixth in the West, bouncing back from a shock loss to the Detroit Pistons.

It has been an up and down season for the Lakers, with their .567 record reflective of a competitive conference.

Former LA Lakers legend and team president Magic Johnson showed his enduring passion for the franchise, reacting to the victory.

He picked out LeBron James performance as ‘superb’, with the 39-year-old winning his 11th Christmas Day game, a new NBA record.

Johnson wrote: “Laker Nation, what a game!! Austin Reaves with the last second layup to win the game, finishing with a triple-double

“LeBron was superb tonight as well with 31 point and 10 assist performance and so was Golden State’s superstar Steph Curry, finishing with 38 points! NBA on Christmas Day has definitely been worth the watch!”

LeBron James scored 31 points, with 10 rebounds and four assists, also making one block and two steals on the defensive end.

James is averaging 23.5 ppg this season, 7.9 rebounds and 9.0 assists.

The Lakers were +4 with LeBron on the court, and needed him at his best after Anthony Davis suffered an early ankle injury.

Davis lasted only seven minutes and came off after failing to score a point. Austin Reaves stepped up with 26.

On the other side of the ball, Stephen Curry hit 38, but it wasn’t enough for the Warriors, who fall to 15-14 after the narrow loss.
