Manchester United are in desperate need of a new striker this summer, with Ruben Amorim needing reinforcements in the final third if he’s to succeed in the role.
The Red Devils currently only have two senior options on the books in the form of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee – with both falling way below the expectations they arrived at the club with.
The aforementioned pair only registered seven Premier League goals between them throughout 2024/25, highlighting the need for a new talisman ahead of the new campaign.
Signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have already been completed within the final third, but if the side are to rise up the table next year, further additions are desperately needed.
Numerous players have emerged on their radar as a result, leading to huge rumours about the potential transfers of multiple top-level attacking talents.
The latest on United’s hunt for new additions
Ollie Watkins has been a player constantly linked with United this summer, but as of yet, no deal has yet been completed for the Aston Villa talisman this summer.
Fresh talks have been held for the 29-year-old’s signature over the last few days, but his current asking price of £60m this window could prove to be a tad too high.
However, the fanbase shouldn’t worry, with key work being conducted on a move to land RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, according to TEAMtalk.
The report claims that Christopher Vivell has made the Slovenian their number one target for the centre-forward position this summer after missing out on Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitiké.
It also states that the 22-year-old could be available for a fee in the region of £67m this summer, a potential bargain given his tally of 21 goals for the German outfit last season.
Why United’s latest target could be their next Van Persie
Striker Robin van Persie managed to hugely impress during his time at United, leading the club to their last Premier League triumph a staggering 13 years ago.
The Dutchman joined in a controversial deal from rivals Arsenal, but his £24m deal was an excellent deal for the club, subsequently helping lead the side to title glory in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season.
He was infamous for his tremendous ball-striking ability, as seen by his stupendous effort against Aston Villa, latching onto a long ball from Wayne Rooney before firing home powerfully on the volley.
The experienced forward registered 30 goals in his 48 appearances across all competitions, 26 of which came in the league, subsequently claiming the division’s Golden Boot award.
Sesko has the potential to replicate such a feat at Old Trafford in the near future, should he make the move, having bags of time to fulfil his potential given his tender age.
The Slovenian also has a very similar ball-striking technique, able to direct that ball with power into the back of the net, similarly to how Van Persie did in Manchester.
His strike against Werder Bremen last year is also evidence of the power he possesses, with his effort that found the top corner and was clocked at a staggering 126.43 km/h.
Sesko, who’s been labelled “phenomenal” by talent scout Antonio Mango, registered 1.2 shots on target per 90, along with 0.5 goals scored per game in the Bundesliga last season – highlighting the threat he carries in attacking areas.
He also completed 55% of the dribbles he attempted, along with 57% aerials won, subsequently handing Amorim the all-round talent he desires within the final third.

If he can transfer his skillset across to England with him, Sesko would be a huge addition for United, potentially completing a frightening trio by starring alongside Cunha and Mbeumo.
Should he reach the levels produced by Van Persie at Old Trafford, it would be a bargain, helping the side in their quest to end their unthinkable wait for an English top-division title.
