Memphis Grizzlies rookie’s Jimmy Butler comments resurfaced amid trade rumors made Miami Heat fans excited.
Jimmy Butler will likely return to the Miami Heat following his recent two-game suspension. But whether the Heat will look forward to having Butler back on the roster is up for debate.
Considering the Heat will face the Orlando Magic next, they will need all the star power they can get. As for the Jimmy Buckets trade saga, the most recent development was Miami’s stance on getting Bradley Beal.
With that out of the way, the Heat Nation has made its stance clear on the possibility of getting a Memphis Grizzlies star in return for the 35-year-old.
Ja Morant and the Grizzlies are having an excellent season so far. They are currently the third seed in the Western Conference and one of the top candidates to ruin the Boston Celtics‘ dreams of repeating.
While the Grizzlies already have an excellent core of stars, they were blessed with a talented rookie, Jaylen Wells. Despite being the 39th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Wells is turning into a good player.
However, amid the Butler fiasco, Wells’ comments from November 2024 have resurfaced where he talked about the 6x NBA All-Star.
“Jimmy Butler. That’s probably the main guy. I grew up being a Heat fan, [but] I’m not a Heat fan anymore… I don’t even know when that game is, to be honest with you,” Wells stated.
“Get Jaylen Wells to the Heat ASAP,” one fan demanded. While another added: “Jaylen Wells, get ready to learn Heat Culture buddy.”
“Why is he acting like Jimmy has been in Miami for 10 years?” a fan questioned.
“I’ve heard enough, bring him home,” an excited Heat fan wrote.
However, a couple of Grizzlies fans were strictly against the idea of losing their star rookie.
“We would never trade Wells. Especially not for burnt-out Jimmy Butler. Wells will be a Grizz for a very long time. Sorry. Draft better.”
“Grew up a Heat fan and you’re talking about Jimmy Butler? Math ain’t mathing.”
Wells could fit with the Heat’s young core, but it’s hard to see the Grizzlies parting ways with him, no matter how much the Miami fanbase wants that to happen.

Initially, Butler made it clear that he would play for any of the 29 NBA teams not named the Miami Heat. However, over the weeks, the 35-year-old remains uninterested in playing in Memphis.
Despite that, the Grizzlies have shown interest in trading for the disgruntled star. On paper, the move makes sense.
Even NBA expert Bobby Marks is all for a potential Butler to Grizzlies trade. But is the risk worth it? After all, trading for Butler won’t be cheap, and he can opt out of his player option in the summer of 2025.
