It hasn’t been an easy ride for the Minnesota Timberwolves (8-7) in their contention for a Western Conference title and a potential title.
The Timberwolves dropped their seventh overall and their fourth in six games in a tough road 110-105 loss at the Toronto Raptors.
The Timberwolves had a rough shooting night by making 33-of-80 of their field goals (41.3%). Minnesota won the turnover battle 17-to-24 but made too many critical turnovers late in the game. It was in the fourth quarter when the Timberwolves encountered two critical turnovers that had the team and fan base fighting.
After Julius Randle didn’t pass the ball inside late in the game to Rudy Gobert, Gobert slowly walked off the paint pouting which caused him to get a three-second violation.
Star Anthony Edwards got visibly upset at Gobert. The play of the game was where Randle’s pass, while low, fumbled off the hands of Gobert causing a turnover thus ending the game.
This game has made Timberwolves fans divided with some upset at Gobert, Edwards, Randle and some at management.
Many fans will argue that Rudy Gobert wasn’t worth the trade from the Utah Jazz where Minnesota sent five players and five first-round picks.
They will also argue that he isn’t worth the three-year; $109.5 million dollar contract. After the loss to the Raptors, many Timberwolves fans expressed their displeasure.
“Gobert’s got to get traded. So much negative value. Also, Finch needs to wake up and give players like Garza a chance. How bad can they be? This isn’t the playoffs. Shouldn’t be playing eight guys a night. Going to wear out Ant and Randle in a hurry if this continues,” says one fan.
Another fan said, “Rudy has regressed badly.”
“This is not a serious team. GOBERT is brutal, I don’t blame Randle for not giving him the ball. GOBERT won’t catch it anyway. Plus what’s up with Naz! He’s taken a step backwards,” one fan said blaming Gobert and Naz Reid too.
One fan said, “Trade the French guy,” referencing Gobert.
Not many fans voiced their displeasures towards Edwards, who had some good and bad moments for the Timberwolves on Thursday night. Edwards scored 26 points shooting 9-of-20 in field goals and 5-of-9 from the three-point arc. He also had three rebounds, two assists, two steals, two blocks but two tough turnovers.
One fan said, “ANT IS SO OVERRATED.”
“Edward keeping shooting proper ball pls Back to back cut 1 with 1point,” one fan upset at Edwards for his shooting.
There were surprisingly more fans upset at management for pushing for the trade of Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks for Randle and a package.
Many others were upset at Randle for forcing those turnovers to Gobert. The rest of the upset fans were unhappy at Naz Reid and guard Donte DiVincenzo.
“Randle should of passed the ball to Rudy,” one fan said on the controversial play before Gobert encountered the three-second rule.
One fan is still upset about the trade as they posted the pic with a happy picture of KAT and Anthony Edwards saying, “we just had to break a good thing.”
“If MR Sixth man made some shots it would have been a different ball game,” one fan said talking about DiVincenzo, who scored 11 points shooting 4-of-12 in field goals and 3-of-9 from the three-point arc.
“Randle Gotta go at Deadline,” said one fan directed at Randle instead.
One fan said, “Great decision to give ant an aging brick handed center and a washed juliASS randle as teammates instead of kat.”
“Trade Randle he can’t play defense,” one fan said about Randle.
“Randle Pathetic he not a winner send his back to where he came from,” another fan said.
Randle had his best night on the Timberwolves with a buzzer-beater winner against the Suns at the weekend. But the glow has already worn off.
