Following the Knicks’ elimination in the Eastern Conference Finals, center Mitchell Robinson has a wholesome message for the fans.
The New York Knicks‘ season ended at the hands of the Indiana Pacers after a massive Game 6 loss in the Eastern Conference Finals. It’s safe to say that they were outplayed in the series.
Magic Johnson blamed the Knicks’ two stars, Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, for the result. Josh Hart was critical of his performance in the aftermath as well.
One player who can say he did his job well is center Mitchell Robinson. He saved several possessions by grabbing offensive rebounds, but he has been quick to accept responsibility anyway.
Robinson has been excellent for the Knicks when called upon. However, his biggest issue has been with injuries, which have caused him to miss significant time.
The big man played just 19 games during this regular season. He was available during the playoffs, but could only manage 20 minutes a game. He spoke about his frustrations on Instagram.
“I know it’s not the end of the world,” the 27-year-old wrote.
“I’ve been in this league for 7 years through the ups and downs, fighting injuries, making big jumps, but this one definitely not the same as the other seasons that ended.
“I’m mad with myself I know damn well I could’ve done more, made free throws, lock guys down, take care of my body and be a student of the game this one gone sting for awhile.”
Robinson is under contract with the Knicks for one more season. The center will make $12,954,546 during the 2025-26 season, after which he will be a free agent.
From 2019 to 2023, Robinson played in 223 Knicks games, averaging 8.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks. He looked ready to be the franchise’s starting center.
However, since then, he has managed just 48 games in two seasons. What’s more, his averages have dropped significantly as well.
The Knicks will have to decide what they wish to do with the big man this offseason. Should they look to trade him, his expiring contract and potential upside could prove to be quite valuable.
