NBA expert tips De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama to thrive together on the Spurs, ‘Fit is pretty fabulous…’

One NBA analyst is a big fan of the Spurs landing De’Aaron Fox to pair him up with Victor Wembanyama.

The San Antonio Spurs pulled off a major trade on Sunday night. They pulled the trigger on a deal to bring De’Aaron Fox to their team.

The 2014 NBA champions will be happy with this deal. The Spurs will be happy they kept Chris Paul in the De’Aaron Fox trade, something Paul Pierce recommended they do.

Fox’s now-former teammates, DeMar DeRozan and Malik Monk, did not take the news well. But they did share their happiness for the point guard.

Fox will now share the court with Victor Wembanyama. Combining an All-Star-level point guard with one of the brightest prospects in NBA history is going to yield dividends for the Spurs.

Former WNBA analyst and current NBA analyst Chiney Ogwumike spoke about the trade. She lauded De’Aaron Fox’s fit with the Spurs.

She pointed out how Fox, Victor Wembanyama, and Chris Paul are three of the best pick-and-roll players in the NBA, and now share a team together. For Ogwumike, the Spurs are on the road to contention.

“The fit is pretty fabulous. On paper, statistically, this looks like the best pick-and-roll team in basketball.

“When you think about the points-per-screen for players, De’Aaron Fox is number six in the NBA. Victor Wembanyama is number two.”

“The irony here is that number one on that list is Chris Paul. They have three of the top pick-and-rollers in basketball. As it pertains to Fox, he is 27 years old. He averages 25-6-5.”

“He really has experience playing alongside a talented big… The build towards the San Antonio Spurs becoming a contender is happening right now before our eyes.”

Ogwumike gave some brilliant analysis on the matter. The statistics show that the Spurs could become the outright best pick-and-roll team in the entire NBA soon.

The San Antonio Spurs are currently 21-25 in the Western Conference sitting 12th in the seeding. Given that they have gotten significantly better, they could start making a playoff push soon.

The teams ahead of them are the Warriors, Kings (whom they just got Fox from), the Suns, and the Timberwolves.

Given how close the Western Conference is, the Spurs can make a realistic push to make the playoffs, not just the play-in tournament.

The teams ahead of them could change drastically going forward. And if they struggle to gel right away, the Spurs should try and take advantage and make a strong run.

It would be a heck of a welcome-back gift for Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, who is currently recovering from a stroke he suffered earlier this season.
