It’s not been a great start to the season for most LA Lakers fans but they may have been handed a glimmer of hope following Bronny James’ latest display.
The Lakers have won just once in their last four games and have suffered some heavy blowout defeats this season.
Antony Davis has been called out for poor performances this season and pressure is mounting on new coach JJ Redick.
So, the eye-catching display by Bronny, son of LeBron, couldn’t have come at a better time.
Playing in the G-League for the South Bay Lakers, Bronny stepped up to deliver a game-high 30 points on 57% shooting.
The performance did not go unnoticed by Lakers fans who are clutching on to any sign of promise they can this season.
Bronny’s highest previous points-scoring performance of 16 was blown out of the water following his recent 30-point display.
The 20-year-old is now averaging 14 PPG, 3.5 RPG, and 2.5 APG. These numbers may not seem impressive but for a rookie, they’re right up there.
Playing under the pressure of his dad’s reputation is always going to make things slightly harder for him than most who enter the NBA.
Following his performance Lakers fans took to X to show their support with one fan saying: “A non-NBA calibre player doesn’t do this btw, his time is coming.”
Another said: “LET HIM COOOOK!!!!”
One more said: “Getting his confidence back!”
Some even made comparisons to his Dad with one fan saying: “He really does play like a small version of his pops man. Watch his footwork.”
“Respect – Bronny keep grinding & ignoring the haters,” another said.
A final fan said: “Bronny came in like a rookie, but he’s playing like a vet! From 16 to 30 points in no time—his road to greatness is looking James-worthy.”
Despite getting some great support from the Lakers fans it remains uncertain how much longer Bronny will be repping the yellow and purple.
LeBron is being linked with trades away from the Lakers, and Bronny is being mentioned as an inclusion in some of these.
While it remains uncertain whether LeBron will stay with the Lakers it would be a huge disappointment for the loyal Lakers fans to also lose their prospect Bronny.
LeBron has been heavily linked with a potential trade to the Warriors, who are looking to help Draymond Green and Steph Curry secure another championship.
Lakers fans will be looking to avoid the double-whammy of losing both Bronny and LeBron in the coming months, how realistic this is remains to be seen.
