The Knicks won Game 2 in Boston against the Celtics in dramatic fashion, making NBA playoff history in the process.
The New York Knicks have stunned the NBA world once more, winning 91-90 against the Boston Celtics in Game 2. They have won both games on the road at TD Garden, an incredible feat.
This was a pure team win for the Knicks, with four players scoring 14 points or more. Jalen Brunson had 17 points on the night, Josh Hart led the way with 23.
The team found itself down 20 with two minutes left in the 3rd quarter, but fought back. A 30-17 4th quarter performance saw them climb the mountain and get the crucial victory.
After they left NBA fans in awe with a 20-point comeback to win Game 1, Tom Thibodeau’s team did it again. This is the first time in playoff history that a team has made consecutive 20-point comebacks and won.
The Celtics are reigning champions, and they’ve seemed unstoppable these last two seasons. With a 2-0 lead and two games coming in New York, though, the situation seems tough.
Paul Pierce changed his series prediction and emphatically backed Boston to win the series, but fans don’t think it’s going to happen.
“They might not be able to come back from this,” a fan said on social media. “The Knicks have done the unthinkable yet again, I’m literally shaking,” said another.
A third fan said, “The Knicks are going to the NBA Finals!!!!” Another added, “Imagine letting up a 20-point lead at home in the playoffs, Celtics are frauds.”
One fan encapsulated the feeling after the game, writing, “The playoffs are cooking this year, I can’t even keep up ngl.”
Jayson Tatum has received criticism for being ‘extremely poor’ due to his role in the Game 1 loss. If anything, Game 2 was somehow worse for him and the team.
Tatum had only 13 points, and no Celtic scored more than 20 points in the game. The team shot 25% from three-point range again, missing 30 three-pointers.
Boston cannot afford to lose another game. No team in NBA playoff history has come back after going 3-0 down in a series, so Game 3 is now a must-win.
The Knicks are now firmly in control of this series. However, they need to ensure that there is no complacency once they return to New York and that the team focuses on getting the job done.
