NBA fans react as Michael Malone goes off on Denver Nuggets after loss against Trail Blazers

The Denver Nuggets suffered their second consecutive defeat as they were handed a 109-128 loss by the Portland Trail Blazers.

Playing without MVP contender Nikola Jokic, the Denver Nuggets seemed to struggle in the second-half, allowing the young Trail Blazers to score 74 points on them.

Aaron Gordon, Russell Westbrook and Michael Porter Jr. combined to score 58 points, while Jamal Murray stayed quiet throughout the game, scoring only 10 on 5-10 shooting from the field.

Coach Michael Malone was visibly frustrated with his team’s performance and went off in his post-game press-conference.

“That was embarrassing, that was just a joke.

“11 games to go and that’s the effort we put forth, I’m embarrassed by that game and the approach and how we played.

“I don’t know what our guys are thinking with 11 to go and I challenge our guys to look at the standings and look at our remaining schedule and if we continue to play the way we’re playing we will be in the play-in tournament,” said Malone.

Fans were also not particularly pleased with the Nuggets’ performance on the night.

One fan said: “The Denver Nuggets are not contenders imo. Fire Calvin Booth yesterday.”

While another added: “Watching The Denver Nuggets without Jokic is like bleeding from your eyes slowly.”

A fan also stated it was not a great time to be a Nuggets fan.

“It sucks to be a Nuggets Fan right now,” he said.

One fan opined: “I’m still trying to see why people are saying duck Denver Nuggets in the playoffs. They literally had one dominant playoffs where they won it all. And that year, they dominated in the regular season, too. They do not look nothing like the Denver team that won it. Smh.”

A fan had a strong admission about Malone. “Michael Malone seems to have lost this team. Players are not listening to him anymore. We need a new coach next year who can get the best out of his players.”

The Nuggets’ loss to the Blazers has pushed them to fourth position in the Western Conference standings and they could go further down as Memphis Grizzlies are just a game behind them.

What makes it tough for the 2023 champions is their upcoming games, as they have the likes of Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors waiting for them.

Jokic’s absence has severely hampered the team and they will have to look at solutions to bounce back from the disappointing results.

Murray, who sat out for the games against LA Lakers and Golden State Warriors will have to elevate his game in the remaining matchups.

Gordon has put up some big performances, but that has not been enough for the team.

With more than three teams vying for a direct spot in the playoffs, the Nuggets cannot afford to drop games as that could have serious repercussions for them.
