Patrick Beverley Was Told By 76ers’ Daryl Morey He Wouldn’t Be Traded

Philadelphia 76ers exec Daryl Morey told Patrick Beverley that the guard wouldn’t be traded at the NBA trade deadline.

Morey wound up trading Beverley to the Milwaukee Bucks for Cameron Payne and a second-round pick.

James Harden called Morey a liar last summer after requesting a trade from the Sixers. The optics around Morey don’t look good right now.

Beverley is averaging 6.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.4 blocks this season while shooting 43.2% from the field, 32.1% from beyond the arc and 81.0% from the free-throw line. He’s making $3.2 million.

Beverley, who has made three All-Defensive teams since entering the NBA in 2012, has career averages of 8.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.5 blocks with the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls and Sixers. The Chicago native is 35 years old.

Bucks superstar point guard Damian Lillard and Beverley have a long history of beefing. However, Lillard told Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report that he’s not worried about playing with Beverley.

“First, I want to say I’m sad to see Cam go,” Lillard said. “We developed a friendship that I cherish. As for Pat, he brings an edge and a defensive tenacity on the perimeter that we need. There are not many players who bring it on a nightly like him. I look forward to working together. Our past personal issues don’t trump an opportunity to win a championship.”

Milwaukee is in third place in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 33-18, while Philadelphia is in fifth place in the East with a record of 30-20.
