Stephon Castle is one of the precious young gems on the San Antonio Spurs roster.
With all eyes fixated towards Victor Wembanyama we saw Stephon Castle bolster his own reputation at NBA All-Star weekend.
Chosen by the San Antonio Spurs as the No. 4 overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, Castle is impressing in his rookie season. In 51 games, he is averaging 12.9 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.8 boards.
Castle has been so promising that he was deemed untouchable by the Spurs ahead of the past trade deadline. And him staying in San Antonio despite the major acquisition of De’Aaron Fox was considered “one of the biggest heists” by an NBA star.
Castle is showing his star potential as a combo guard, greatly developing under the wing of Chris Paul, he can score with ease and navigate an offense.
With his stellar play thus far this 2024-25 in which he also made history, Castle managed to earn tons of fans already beyond the Spurs fandom. And one of these people has been Paul George.
In the latest episode of Podcast P, the Philadelphia 76ers star offered his lofty praise for Castle as one of the league’s best talents under 22 years of age.
“I love his tenacious offensive mindset,” George said.
“He’s looking to kill, he’s looking to get to the bucket, and be aggressive every time he touches the ball.
“He can really score the ball, he’s super athletic. Just a great young talent that San Antonio has.”
Castle’s talent was on full display in the past All-Star Weekend as he was stapled in all of the event’s three highlight-reel evenings.
At first, Castle dazzled fans in the Rising Stars challenge. By dropping 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists, he earned the tournament MVP upon powering ‘Team C’ towards All-Star Game qualification.
On Saturday, he proceeded to wow everyone with his dunks and flashy finishes for the Slam Dunk Contest. He finished strongly at the second place, just coming up short against reigning dunk king and Mac McClung.
And at last in the All-Star Game, Castle made the most out of his opportunities in playing against some of the best players in the world. He tallied six points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in his team’s 42-35 losing effort against the ‘OGs’ squad.
Castle couldn’t ask for a much better ride in his first year in the NBA, and brighter possibilities are still yet to come.
