Philadelphia 76ers Trade Targets Entering 2024-25 Season

The Philadelphia 76ers have been chasing an elusive NBA title for years, but so far, “The Process” has been anything but successful. The rebuild, centered around star center Joel Embiid, has hit its ceiling with multiple Game 7 exits in the second round of the playoffs. This season, the 76ers are going all-in on a new formula, hoping to finally find success in the Embiid era.

The biggest move of the offseason was the signing of Paul George to a four-year, $212 million deal. While concerns about George’s age persist, the signing signals Philadelphia’s win-now mentality. Additionally, the team has done a commendable job of filling out their roster with role players to complement their trio of stars, including Tyrese Maxey. Despite this, the 76ers still have a few areas that need improvement if they hope to reach the top.

One of the key positions the team must address is power forward. While Joel Embiid provides size and strength in the frontcourt, Philadelphia could use a more natural power forward to round out the starting lineup. Here are three players the 76ers could target to solidify their roster.

A familiar face, Georges Niang could be a seamless fit for the current 76ers roster, making a reunion in Philadelphia an intriguing possibility. Although Niang’s 6-foot-7 frame isn’t a massive upgrade in size, his length and 3-point shooting make him an attractive option for Philadelphia. Niang has made a name for himself as a career 40% shooter from beyond the arc, which is exactly the type of player the 76ers need to complement Embiid’s inside presence.

Niang’s ability to thrive as a catch-and-shoot player would make him an ideal addition to a team built around Paul George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey. He wouldn’t take touches away from the stars, and his shooting would help space the floor, making him an excellent fit for Philly’s offensive schemes.

Larry Nance Jr., who recently joined the Atlanta Hawks, is another versatile option that the 76ers should consider. Nance has quietly established himself as one of the most reliable power forwards in the league, known for his ability to fill multiple roles. Whether it’s rebounding, perimeter defense, or setting screens, Nance brings a wealth of skills that would fit perfectly into Philadelphia’s system.

Last season, Nance averaged 7.7 points and 6 rebounds on 54% shooting from the field, including 34% from three. But his impact goes beyond the stat sheet. Nance is known for his hustle, defensive versatility, and ability to be a glue guy for his teams. Adding Nance would provide depth and a versatile option in the frontcourt, making him a perfect rotational piece for the 76ers.

The 76ers also need to address their backup point guard position, especially after the departure of De’Anthony Melton from Philadelphia. While the team is relying on veteran Kyle Lowry, his age and durability raise concerns about his ability to play significant minutes. Enter Dennis Schröder, a point guard who could fill the void off the bench.

Schröder, who is on a $13 million contract, would provide a much-needed upgrade. Coming off a season where he averaged 14 points and 6 assists for the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors, Schröder has shown that he can still be productive, even on struggling teams.

His defensive tenacity and playmaking abilities would be a valuable asset for Philadelphia, especially in key moments. At a manageable price point, Schröder could help shore up the 76ers’ backcourt depth and provide consistent production behind Maxey.
