According to Julien Laurens of ESPN, Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from LOSC Lille for €40million, with add-ons devised to take the total fee up to €55million – the official confirmation is expected at any moment – and they’re now open to offers for Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Donnarumma played a vital role in PSG’s rise to Champions League glory for the first time ever last season, and the club’s decision to open the door for his departure may seem strange at first glance. However, the Italy international, whose shot-stopping quality is obviously superb, has less than a year left on his contract. He demanded a significant raise to sign a new one, but there was no agreement on that subject with sporting director Luis Campos.
Furthermore, head coach Luis Enrique is believed to be looking for more play involvement from his ‘keeper, which apparently, Chevalier is, and the 23-year-old Frenchman is now set to take the first-choice role between the posts away from Donnarumma.
It obviously doesn’t make sense to keep someone like Donnarumma – already among the club’s highest earners – as a backup option. PSG are said to be expecting offers from Manchester United, Chelsea, and Inter Milan, for his services.
