Quincy Olivari breaks silence on being cut from LA Lakers roster, names one player he will really miss

Despite getting waived, ex-LA Lakers guard has high praise for LeBron James.

With the Los Angeles Lakers struggling to win games in recent weeks, a few changes were evidently needed in the roster.

The organization went ahead with the decision to waive point guard Quincy Olivari.

Olivari majorly played for the South Bay Lakers in the G League but was promoted to the senior team following an impressive stretch. Unfortunately, the 23-year-old journey in LA has come to an end.

For an undrafted player, it’s always an uphill battle to earn a spot in the NBA. While Olivari was seemingly on the right path, he is no longer deemed a part of the Lakers’ future.

However, Olivari was utmost professional about the storied franchise’s decision. He spoke about his short stint with the Purple and Gold with NBA insider Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“It was great being here, especially being around a storied franchise like the Los Angeles Lakers. I loved being in the facility every day around legends because I was able to ask questions and learn,” Olivari said.

“More importantly, I enjoyed being around a legend in LeBron James and seeing how he approaches the game even in preseason games, which is remarkable,” he continued.

Olivari further talked about the incredible example that James sets for the rest of the season even as a 40-year-old.

“He’s a guy that shows up every day and he’s literally the blueprint for how a player should approach the game. It’s something I was excited to watch and I’m glad I was able to experience it.”

Olivari averaged 1.5 points and 0.5 assists per game for the Lakers during his short stay with the franchise.

With a roster spot open, the 17-time NBA champions didn’t delay with a replacement for Olivari. The organization announced the signing of Trey Jemison to add more help at the center position.

Jemison knows what he will bring to the Lakers. Not being a primary scorer, Jemison is targeting doing the little things for the Purple and Gold.

“Those little things guys don’t want to do, I mean, I’m elite at. I’m blessed to say that. I’m a leader. I’m going to get dirty for those extra points. That’s the job for me,” the 25-year-old said.

Jemison earned his big break with the Memphis Grizzlies last season and even dropped a 24-point performance for the team.

With the Lakers in desperate need of a nitty-gritty player, Jemison may very well turn out to be an excellent fit for the organization.
