Former LA Lakers star Robert Horry wants Austin Reaves to reach out to him to discuss his postseason performance.
Austin Reaves has admitted he was not good enough, speaking after the LA Lakers’ Game 5 defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Reaves scored only 12 points in the loss, continuing his series struggles, where he has been a big disappointment in comparison to his regular season form.
The Timberwolves’ physicality played a part in Reaves’s struggles, while his shooting deserted him. Austin Reaves averaged 16.2 points per game in the series, compared to 20.2 pg in the regular season.
Speaking to the Lakers’ postgame show on Spectrum, former Lakers star Robert Horry broke down where it had gone wrong for Austin Reaves.
He pointed to the more physical series causing him to be hesitant, and also noting his lack of free throws.
Reaves did not have a single free-throw attempt in Game 4 or Game 5, and totalled only seven across the first three games.
His had an impact on his scoring, with Reaves averaging five three throws taken per game this season, scoring 4.1 pg.
Horry explained: “You look at what Austin Reaves normally does, he gets to the line, zero free throws tonight. And to me, that’s not like Austin Reaves.
“You have the ability, with him he’s so used to getting calls and going to the free throw line, he got to switch his mindset.
“Those calls you get in the regular season, you not going to get in the playoffs.”
Robert Horry says Austin Reaves needs some solid advice from somebody not inside his inner circle, and offered his own services.
He said: “What Austin needs to do is he needs to sit down with someone outside of his boys and the coaching staff and look at this series, and how he played it, on an honest basis.
“Make a move, make it aggressive, make it quick. We know he’s not the quickest guy like a Kyrie [Irving] like Antman [Anthony Edwards], make a precise move, be smart with it.
“For me, Austin Reaves, you got my number, call me, I can tell you exactly what you need to improve my brother.”
