Ron Harper says claims about Dylan Harper and the San Antonio Spurs were wrong from the start

After going through a rebuilding phase, the San Antonio Spurs finally have phenomenal young players to build around for the foreseeable future.

While Victor Wembanyama remains the most talented star on the roster, there are many more key pieces around Wemby who have the potential to uplift the San Antonio Spurs.

This includes Dylan Harper, who recently joined the Spurs as the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Before the decision was made official, however, many rumors suggested the Spurs seriously considered trading away the second pick.

Being a former NBA player, Ron Harper likely understands how the media works. Be it with draft prospects or trade rumors, the media often gives fuel to the chatter on social media.

Dylan faced something similar before the Spurs called his name on the 2025 NBA Draft night. Many reports emerged claiming that the former Rutgers star isn’t keen on playing for the Spurs.

Well, those rumors have been put to bed by veteran NBA insider Marc J. Spears.

“I talked to his dad, man. He’s super excited about him being in San Antonio because he can focus and doesn’t think there’s a lot to do there,” Spears reported.

One fan quickly took note of it and pointed out how the media had spread misinformation about Ron and Dylan not keen on joining the Spurs.

“We love SA and the Spurs, he’s gonna get better every day with those teammates and front office and staff and I can’t wait…,” Ron wrote on X.

Evidently, the 5x NBA champion’s comments went viral on X, and many praised him for calling out fake reports about his thoughts on the Spurs.

Adding to it, Ron also praised NBA legends George Gervin, Tim Duncan, and David Robinson in a separate tweet.

“They’re always putting words in my mouth I have nothing but RESPECT for the Spurs from the Iceman to Tim and David, too, the young core that they’ve they know how to build championship teams…” Harper added on X.

Similar to Ron, Dylan has also spoken fondly of the Spurs as he recently made his NBA Summer League debut with the franchise.
